Susan Faust has been engaged in the pursuit of artistic expression for as long as she can remember. She chose to pursue a career in ceramics after graduation from West Virginia Wesleyan with a BA in fine arts in 1973. Susan became a master potter and was Artist in Residence for the state of West Virginia from 1975- 1977. Thousands of pots later and hundreds of craft shows under her belt Susan headed west in 1985 for new horizons and to pursue a dream of being a painter. She landed in Sedona Arizona and became the head of the ceramics department at The Sedona Art Center from 1986 to 1999. During that time Susan studied with acclaimed artists and teachers in the US and Europe. In 1994 Susan began teaching painting at the art center as well as workshops around the country. In 1999 Susan left the desert to live in the Pacific Northwest and spent ten years painting the lush and green landscape en plein air. She participated widely in national Plein Aire competitions and festivals and was represented by some of the finest galleries in Oregona and Washington. In 2014 she became focused on abstract work inspired by landscape. She returned to the beauty and peace of the high desert, Santa Fe NM in 2018, where she now makes her home.
She is the recipient of numerous awards in American and International exhibitions and is a featured plein air pastel artist in the PBS television series, "The Artist's Workshop". Susan was a featured artist in the June, 2000 issue of Pastel Artist International Magazine. She has taught workshops throughout the country and in Europe and has taught as an invited international instructor in Australia. She was a juror for the International Art Prize in 2015 through 2017.
She is a member of Oil Painters of America, The Pastel Society of America , and The Northwest Pastel Society. Susan has won numerous awards and her work hangs in private and corporate collections through out the country and Europe. She is currently represented by The Hat Ranch Gallery in Santa Fe and Howard Mandville Gallery in Woodinville, Washington.
